It’s been nearly a year since I decided to lease an office
space and just a few months of leasing the entire suite. Being able to plan and
offer activities for kids has been something I’ve wanted to do for a very long
time and this October was extra special this year, because I finally took that
leap. With the unbelievable help of Carol Kushion (Halloween Hop) and Stephanie
from Sassy’s Art Studio (The Pumpkin Paint), we invited kids from the community
to come sing, paint pumpkins, and at the root of it all feel a part of the
community!
We began the month with our very first Halloween Hop
instructed by Carol Kushion, a beautiful soul who happens to be a retired music
teacher from Cadillac. Oh, and she’s an artist…have I mentioned there’s not
much she can’t do?
Carol teaching a stone-passing song. This little girl is still singing this one, how sweet is that?! |
Carol joined us along with some littles to teach music and
movement. She brought music shakers, take-home activities and all the energy
needed to keep kids ages 3-5 yrs. old engaged. She is brilliant and the fact
that one of the “hoppers” from our Halloween Hop is STILL singing the songs
(per her grandmother’s report last week), says it all.
Best compliment EVER. Amiright Carol Kushion?! ;)
Costumes were a huge hit!! |
Next year, I fully intend to offer the same event and
costumes will be an absolute YES. It made it so, so very fun and based on
parent comments they definitely agree. Carol and I also plan to collaborate
again this winter for another music and movement opportunity, so stay tuned! We’re
waiting until the holiday hustle and bustle tones it down a bit. ;) Parents- your
welcome. Hehe.
The second Halloween kid’s meetup of the month was The
Pumpkin Paint with Stephanie from Sassy’s Art Studio.
This class was a drop-in class, which meant kids could stop
in, paint their chosen pumpkin and leave when they were finished. The style of
the class was perfect, although the kids who participated all stayed the entire
length of time for the most part. ;) Unicorn pumpkins are apparently a huge
hit. And now that I’ve seen them with my own eyes, it all makes perfect sense.
Her smile said it all. ;) |
The very best part of this class for me was seeing the kids
really interact without having adults guiding them at all times. One
grandparent even stepped out of the room for a bit to let her granddaughter create
with full freedom, so cool! They gave each other ideas, made their own choices
and supported each other’s creativity along the way. It was perfection.

If you haven’t been to one of Stephanie’s painting classes
or had her over for a private party, well…I highly recommend you do. She did a
wonderful job with the kids who attended and I can only imagine how her bright,
sunshiny self would show up in an adult class.
I hope you all enjoyed a safe, costume- and candy-filled October!
It’s so fun to see all the families dress up together and all the community has
to offer this time of year. So much work goes into coordinating and we’re
extremely lucky to have people work behind the scenes to bring fun events to
our area for our families!
If you didn’t make it to the events in October, no worries!
I’ve got all the ideas circling around in this head of mine waiting to be
released, so this is just the beginning. ;) If you are an instructor of music,
dance, art, photography, karate master, Lego master…I don’t know…anything that’s
kid-friendly, then by all means reach out to me. I’d love to hear how we can
work together to bring something great to our area!
And, if you’d like to be “in the loop” on all the happenings
at Michelle Lynn Therapy, then you should really be a subscriber and can do that below. ;) I promise
I won’t overload you with emails. I’m one person behind this little business
and cannot send you enormous amounts of emails -- just one, maybe two a month with the yummy stuff
we’ve got going.
Enjoy your Saturday friends!
Peace & Love,
Michelle
